As an Etsy seller, I know that a small margin is the standard in the craft online world, but there are some exceptions. Below that, the profit you make is what you put toward product and materials. It doesn’t matter where you get your products or supplies, the profit that you make is the net.
Some good places are:
Tubs: If you offer custom tubs in the first week of your run, people usually purchase them immediately. However, you have to sell the stuff at least 4 days in advance of your run to cover your expenses.
Samples: If you sell your stuff through Eternia’s E-commerce, you’ll earn extra money if people purchase these samples from your website. It’s also a good way to get in the game if you have a large number of customers. Most people don’t mind paying for samples, but it’s nice if people do.
Hats and accessories: You will earn $50-$100 a day in sales if you offer hats through Eternia’s E-commerce. Some hat sellers offer a one-time commission for each order. If you don’t get commissions, you typically have to make your own sales to cover your costs.
Bags: If you sell more than 500 items a month, shipping can cost between $5-$20, and you earn about $40-$50 a week if you’re not selling bulk. So, with only 500 to sell, your total sales are $180-$250 a month. I don’t recommend selling over $1,000 a month, but it’s better than nothing.
Don’t let this take you out of the running!
If you’re serious about making good income online, you’ll need an online storefront. The only way to get started is to do the research. There are websites and Etsy stores you can search to see what your competition are charging, and it works for some. But, there are a few things you should know before you jump into the game.
