The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the average annual salary of a Furniture maker is about $39,700 in 2013.[6] A typical full-time, year-round employee is employed for approximately 25 hours per week. Furniture makers typically draw salaries between a third and a half of the minimum hourly wage. These hourly rates are more than sufficient as an average to make ends meet for the low-wage workers they employ. They also tend to be more lucrative than other types of full-time employees because of their higher compensation. Employees earning less than $18 per hour are paid wages that are 40 percent less than the minimum hourly wage.[9] A typical full-time, year-round employee of a furniture maker earns between $26,650 and $30,330, more than 35 percent more than the annual salary of a typical state, county, and city government employee.[10]
