According to a recent U.N. report, Americans should choose a diet that is low in sugar, high in fiber and lower in saturated fat, and moderate in salt and refined carbs. A study at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine found that those who ate a Western-style diet ate the fewest calories per day in the 20 years examined.
The number of people in jail in England and Wales has risen more than tenfold since 1970, and it’s not only women who are being subjected to a double standard when it comes to the way they are treated.
Between 2013—when the latest police statistics were published—and 2015, the number of adults in custody in the country has increased from 1.5 million to 2.1 million, the National Crime Agency (NCA) warns.

“The numbers in jail have increased five-fold since 1971 when there existed one adult in custody for every 10,000 people in England and Wales,” said the report, published on Monday.
The NCA said that “the vast majority of jail admissions are not for crimes but for non-violent minor offences such as truancy, shoplifting, drug offences and speeding.”
The report cites increasing numbers of men sent to prison for a range of offences, from drugs and driving offences to fraud and theft.
It also lists the “disproportionate” racial disparities in the way they are dealt with. While African British people account for 16 percent of the population and 25 percent of the jail population, the NCA says that black women are eight times more likely to be jailed than white women.
The justice secretary, Michael Gove, said: “Too many people from ethnic minorities are imprisoned – some of whom pose no threat to society. I want to see our court systems and penal systems that are in place today for everyone become even better.”
The Department of Justice said that it was committed to “ensuring that every individual who commits a crime is held to account and ensuring that justice is not denied”.
The justice minister, Nick Hurd, said: “We have a tough criminal justice system, which protects all our communities and gives justice the necessary resources to achieve a higher-quality outcome for all who fall victim to it. But we cannot remain locked into the past just because we cannot get out.”
