A Healthy Fat Diet
Many people have heard the message that “fat is bad” and have wanted to limit their total and saturated fat consumption to “healthy” levels. That’s true – the food industry has put a lot of effort to promote the fat free, high level of saturated fat in the American diet.
It’s true that fat from sources other than saturated fat causes heart disease, heart attack, and stroke. The good news is that the amount of fat in our diet is much more variable and variable from person to person. Our individual differences in fat metabolism also affects the amount of fat we have in our diets.
What Makes Fat Bad for Your Health?
In the beginning, when our ancestors were eating a healthy diet, they were consuming a ton of fat – including saturated fat. (In fact, the ratio of saturated to polyunsaturated fat can vary between two people depending on genetics.)
But today, when most Americans are eating fat-free or low fat, processed, or otherwise unhealthy diets, they are eating a lot of saturated fat. This is not a healthy amount of fat – it’s the exact opposite of what our ancestors were eating. And in all likelihood, we can get fat in our fat tissues for free.
So you’re eating a lot of other things that are fat by comparison. But is it any healthier to eat low fat foods
