Belly fat is the fat that covers up when you’re resting. You need it to keep you warm, but if you lose belly fat, you can literally put your body temperature in the negative, which is why most people lose weight by starving themselves.
You can lose belly fat through different ways, but the two most common include:
Decreasing your calorie intake : If you eat less calories than you burn, you’ll become more fat, which should help to make up for the amount of muscle you lose.
If you eat less calories than you burn, you’ll become more fat, which should help to make up for the amount of muscle you lose. Maintaining a high-sugar diet : If you eat more calories than you burn (meaning you’re not doing more than 1,500 Calories per day), you’ll end up gaining belly fat. When you lose belly fat, your blood sugar level dips, lowering your metabolic rate and keeping you from burning more than 1,500 Calories a day (not including exercise).

Now that you understand what fat is, what you should and shouldn’t do to lose it, and what to do to boost your metabolic rate to get it burning more, let’s talk about how to lose fat effectively.
You already lose fat in the off-season
If you exercise regularly during your off-season (which we’ll cover below – more on this later), you may already be losing significant amounts of fat.
Research has shown that when people get into a caloric deficit during the off-season, it increases the amount of fat in the body and even increases the risk of serious complications like type-2 diabetes.
You won’t have muscle mass to burn that fat
As we’ve already said, the main way to keep yourself from gaining belly fat is to lose fat in the off-season – you’ll lose muscle mass, but you probably won’t have any muscle mass left to burn.
You lose your body fat, but you won’t lose muscle
If you get fat during the off-season and then lose muscle as you get back to normal weight, you won’t have enough muscle in your core to burn the fat you have. By contrast, when you get back into a normal weight, some muscle loss may still be visible – however, your body will burn more
