Dancers and partners have very different needs and desires.
The dancer’s needs come first
Most dancers are self-motivated individuals looking for the challenge of a new experience. The dancer will not be drawn to solo performance or perform by themselves—you must have two or three partners and have them help with choreography.
A dancer is a part of a team
A dancer is the leader of an ensemble. An ensemble is not just a big group of dancers or a group of people. Even if an individual is the head of an individualized ensemble, the group includes other dancers. You cannot be a group of dance partners all day long or a group of dancers all night long.
The performer is a part of a team
The dancer or any other element in the act may not always want or need help and guidance, sometimes even to take part in a move. The dancer/attendant/companion or someone working with a dancer can’t just go out on their own. Some choreographers require performers and dancers, depending on the stage and location, to work individually and even live in the venue and work as part of the ensemble.
Dancers sometimes need help in some areas or with moves—this is okay. The dancer may be a part of a dance group that has many members and may help out with some people or choreography when the group has a group-wide leader.
What is dance “art”?
Dance arts consists of all things dancing:
Theater
Movies
Artistic works
Instrumental playing
Tasks or movements to execute
Dance art includes all the artform of performance, choreography, and the use of instruments as a part of the choreography.
When a dance is presented by an artist, it’s an expression of something else (art. For example, a film or a movie’s musical score might include sounds or music that represent its main story).
Why is it hard to get people to dance, or to teach them dance?
This is one of the most important questions you can ask. People’s bodies and their minds need to develop in certain ways to fit into the specific role of a group or a group of performers. When that is accomplished, dancers have to be trained and taught how to communicate with other people in a group and to work together as a team.
