Can’t play anything in a specific order?
I played in an orchestra but I wanted to learn how to play piano by myself
I’ve always had an interest in music and had played classical piano since I was about 10 years old
I’ve been writing music since I was about 5 years old and have always wanted to learn how to play. A friend of mine at school recommended a school that taught piano for adults, I was so excited to try it out.
I had always dreamed of being a musician. The best example I can give is my mom’s piano class.
She got me excited and asked me to show her the chords for the piano. My mom was a little nervous and not expecting how talented a piano player I was. She said to me:
“This is the best chance you will ever have to learn to play the piano.”
I’d never played before, and for that year I was completely lost. I didn’t know what to do.
During that year, I learned to learn the piano by myself and have been playing ever since!
My mom played the piano in the piano concert hall and she taught me how to play. She didn’t really teach me how not to play. She only told me to be sure to hold my breath and not to practice jumping up and down.
“Hold your breath, jump up and down. Don’t practice jumping up and down.”
I now practice that very same principle all the time.
What are the biggest obstacles you’ve overcome?
Working hard to develop my technique
I feel this is the biggest obstacle I’ve overcome: how to write effective music! It took quite some time to be able to create the music that you want to write.
I started doing piano lessons because I wanted to learn how to write and compose. The only difficulty I had was that I was not very good at it. When I’m working on my piano scores, I feel like I’m trying to find something without knowing what it is. I can work on my piano score and make notes on my computer or write music, and then start to play it. And after that, I just stop and don’t go back to what I’m doing. My mom told me:
“You need to work very, very hard just to make it. If you work a little more hard you will play like a pro.”
