Many children learn to play the piano relatively early in life.
About 30% of children aged ten in England have already started playing piano.
And around 4% of children under the age of three begin learning.
At some point in childhood, about 80% of all children reach some level of proficiency with the piano.
The most important age to start learning the piano is when they are about 6 – around 3 or 4, depending on which source from the piano industry you go to.
Many children will benefit from music lessons even earlier.
What kind of music do most children like and how often do they study it?
Piano playing is a broad and varied skill that many children like studying.
Studies have suggested that, for the most part, children prefer a range of material as long as it is interesting.
And, for most children, learning will be beneficial both for its practical benefits (making musical notation, learning theory) as well as for its educational side (building up their musical skills).

Can children learn piano from music teachers?
There is some evidence that children who have been exposed directly to music and piano instruction in the classroom are likely to develop a taste for music as well.
However, this does not mean that if a child attends a piano concert the child will have a strong interest in music and become a musician.
As we will see in the next section, many studies have suggested that piano playing does not make children into musicians.
However, it is also important to point out that the majority of the piano world is teaching this stuff to their students and there is a huge market for this kind of music.
Another thing to point out is that children in most countries who attend music lessons learn the same stuff as people who study music in primary school.
This does not mean that it is not good practice.
It simply means that the most important thing to look for in teaching piano is how to help the child to develop their musical skills.
What are the pros and cons of piano lessons?
While I have never paid the price for piano lessons myself, I know that if I were to start a school full of piano playing children it would have serious and unforeseen consequences.
It would be very difficult and expensive to find qualified teachers in the UK which would offer teaching piano at a decent
