What is the biggest challenge you face when it comes to taking the violin/harpsichord/bass/trombone and playing it professionally?

I have been playing for about 10 years with the hope of getting my first professional job in the industry. However, with the rise of self-taught violinists and people who want to learn from masters, this dream is becoming even more realistic. The best advice is to get all of the right instruments and instruments for different styles of music, both in and outside of the violin/harpsichord/bass/trombone. If you listen to my performances and reviews from musicians (who I am extremely lucky to know), you will find that I’m not playing music or playing exactly the way I want to, but rather I am playing in an effort to get better at my instrument through practice. I will not be playing any specific music from the classical world, but rather I will be playing pieces from all genres, all kinds of music. I hope to become a better player and better teacher, and also to become a musician of my own.

If you could give one piece of advice to people looking to make violin better, what would you say?

Make it a part of your life. You have to get out and practice your instrument everyday and it will be a part of your whole life. You can also become more flexible, have time for things that you really don’t enjoy, but have to do and are good for you. Learn to relax on stage at concerts and get a feel for how you feel as a musician, as opposed to just thinking of yourself as a performer. Play in a big orchestra and perform with people. Listen to other people for feedback and be able to take that feedback into your work. You will see a big difference from the way you do things if you go this way.
