What does editing include? – How To Learn Photo Editing In Lightroom Tutorial Video

A word about editing…

I edit with the words and sentences of the original book. The editing process is all about finding the best way to keep the story as true to the source material as possible. My job, if you can call it that, is to decide where a certain word(s) should be replaced for another, and that is the most difficult part of it.

I’ll try to explain it as simply as possible. If you like, you may skip to step one. If you don’t, well sorry but you’ll have to go to the next one.

If you’ve ever been tempted to edit a book, then you’ll understand by now that there is a bit of a “honeymoon period” that follows a manuscript, as you get a chance to sit down with your editor, hear her out about editing, make suggestions, and learn a bit about the craft.

I’m a hardass and don’t really care for editing. I hate the hassle. If I feel that the book in question is flawed or if something seems wrong, I’ll cut it out. On the other hand, if I really like the book, perhaps something just sounds wrong to me, and I try to cut it out.

What happens when I say I don’t edit?

Well, that’s when I have trouble keeping the lines straight. It’s as simple as that… it’s called the “drama.” When I cut something off, the editing is no longer happening. At the very least I get a little annoyed and can’t really see the problem.

What if I can’t figure out the story’s narrative structure?

Well, now that you’ve made this decision, it’s time to try it yourself. I’m sure it will be challenging, but if you’ve been working with a manuscript for a long time and can follow the path of a story, chances are that the next step is simple. Maybe you’ll make more sense of it. If you still can’t, good for you for reading until you are.
