No, I don’t get deadlines.
How long can you go for?
I usually write at least three books a night.
What’s your secret to writing books for such a long period of time?
I don’t need much help.
How do you work?
I write about half an hour until I know I’ve finished, and I read my stuff off the computer just to be sure. I work on the computer almost everyday. Once I do my writing, I work on the computer to the point where I have to wake up in the middle of the night. Sometimes I leave my desk at 6:00am. The book I’m working on gets done by 2:00-3:00pm. I’ve been with this company since 1998, so I’ve had the same job for 30 years. I don’t know a single new employee, or anything.
I don’t see how I work. How hard is it to write a book?
It’s not hard, just hard. If it were easy, I would have been writing this for decades. I try to keep my work at least 2 pages long.
How do people tell you what they like?
They tell me what they like to drink. They tell me about the books they don’t want to read.
And they don’t say how long they like their coffee.
One of the things that helps writing books is to take an hour to think about the book. You think about it all day, and then at night you just write it down. I do it in the morning.
