The new Apple TV (2018) box is the successor to the Apple TV 4K. It sports better graphics, and the updated software is pretty solid. But if you’re willing to take a bit of a risk, you can still get some amazing performance from the new model.

Better Graphics Than the Apple TV 4K. Although Apple went a step ahead in creating the best Retina graphics for the new Apple TV 4K, they still aren’t the best. The new Apple TV has a resolution of 3840×2160 @ 60 Hz which is just 4% over the 2160×1334 @ 60 Hz that the last Apple TV had. The Apple TV 4K also features an extra-large 4:3 aspect ratio screen for use in full-screen modes, which is a definite improvement.
With new HDR, the new Apple TV 4K will look incredible, and the new Apple TV 4K has the best HDR experience out there. Just look at the picture below. Note how the new Apple TV is able to deliver amazing clarity, contrast ratio, and brightness.
And it’s all without consuming a bit of data either. The new Apple TV also sports a 1.3 GB GDDR5 RAM, which is a welcome upgrade. The display also has double the number of pixels than before, but these extra pixels don’t appear to have much of an effect on the picture.
With all of that said, the Apple TV’s graphical performance remains mediocre compared to rival products. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the new Apple TV 4K is bad.
