KU’s 2014 NBA D-League All-Star Game
The top vote goers for all three Eastern Conference All-Star events were KU’s Royce White, whom the Jayhawks beat in the NBA D-League All-Star Skills Challenge Final, and two players who won both the NCAA and D-League titles in 2010-11.
Top vote getters in the East for the NBADL’s Big Dance:
KU guards Alex Oriakhi, Andrew Harrison, Kaleb Tarczewski, Johnthan Zarboni and Jarnell Stokes.
Indiana’s John Lucas III will miss the 2014 All-Star Game after suffering a season-ending broken finger in November. He will miss all of the team’s games after that.
The NBA D-League All-Stars:
Kentucky guards Royce White (19) (center) and Alex Oriakhi (11) (right) (1) (2)
Syracuse center John Lucas III (17)
Syracuse guard Markel Brown (15)
Kansas big man Greg Wegman (18)
Utah guard Jordan Bachynski (15)
Minnesota guard Luke Ridnour (13)
Kentucky vs. Syracuse
The Jayhawks had the best record in the Atlantic 10 this year and finished 13-3 last season with a 28-9 record against second-rate teams. The top vote getter will be the No. 2 seed in the West Regional at the Wells Fargo Center against the No. 8 seed and Syracuse Blue Knights, for a winner-take-all regional, which could potentially produce the NBA draft lottery winner.
KU and Syracuse were one-and-done last season and won a lot of conference tournament games. This season, KU coach Bill Self will have his entire team on his squad, instead of just the top two. All but one will come from the top 25 of the USA Today all-Americans, which is a significant jump.
